Orthodontics

Orthodontics is the branch of dentistry that corrects teeth and jaws that are positioned improperly. Crooked teeth and teeth that do not fit together correctly are harder to keep clean, are at risk of being lost early due to tooth decay and periodontal disease, and cause extra stress on the chewing muscles that can lead to headaches, TMJ syndrome and neck, shoulder and back pain. Teeth that are crooked or not in the right place can also detract from one's appearance.

How do I Know if I Need Orthodontics?
Only your dentist or orthodontist can determine whether you can benefit from orthodontics. Based on diagnostic tools that include a full medical and dental health history, a clinical exam, plaster models of your teeth, and special X-rays and photographs, an orthodontist or dentist can decide whether orthodontics are recommended, and develop a treatment plan that's right for you.

If you have any of the following, you may be a candidate for orthodontic treatment:

  • Overbite, sometimes called "buck teeth" — where the upper front teeth lie too far forward (stick out) over the lower teeth

  • Underbite — a "bulldog" appearance where the lower teeth are too far forward or the upper teeth too far back

  • Crossbite — when the upper teeth do not come down slightly in front of the lower teeth when biting together normally

  • Open bite — space between the biting surfaces of the front and/or side teeth when the back teeth bite together

  • Misplaced midline— when the center of your upper front teeth does not line up with the center of your lower front teeth

  • Spacing — gaps, or spaces, between the teeth as a result of missing teeth or teeth that do not "fill up" the mouth

  • Crowding — when there are too many teeth for the dental ridge to accommodate

ALIGN YOUR TEETH

With Invisalign you can align your teeth discreetly

A treatment that can straighten your teeth discreetly

The Invisalign treatment is an innovative orthodontic treatment that is available at Prashanth Dental in Melbourne! This treatment includes a series of clear plastic aligners that progressively move your teeth into alignment. Invisalign is designed for patients who want to achieve a straight smile without having to undergo traditional orthodontics.

The benefits of Invisalign

Invisalign is appealing for all patients looking to improve the alignment of their teeth through orthodontics. Some of the main benefits include:

  • Virtually invisible

  • Removable aligners

  • No dietary restrictions

A transparent and removable orthodontic treatment

Not only is Invisalign virtually invisible but the aligners can be removed for meals and dental cleaning. Unlike traditional braces, which is made up of metal wires and brackets that prevent you from eating certain foods, Invisalign has no dietary restrictions and allows you to follow your regular hygiene routine. However, with the ability to remove your aligners, this means that you will need to be completely committed to the treatment to ensure its success. Just because you can remove your aligners whenever you want doesn’t mean you should!

What is the treatment process?

During your consultation we will determine whether Invisalign can be used to correct your alignment concerns. We will then create a treatment plan dependent on the number of aligners required and how much tooth movement will be involved. To start the process off we will take a mould of your teeth and take photos of your mouth to send off for the construction of your aligners. Once you begin the treatment we will require you to come back every so often to mark your progress and receive your new aligners. The treatment time will vary among each individual as it will be dependent upon the severity of the misalignment.

Who would benefit from Invisalign?

Anyone wanting a straighter smile will benefit from Invisalign. During your consultation we will clinically assess your teeth and facial profile and determine if the Invisalign treatment will be ideal for you. For some metal braces are not a realistic solution which is why we generally see patients seeking this treatment if they are in jobs that won’t permit them to wear metal brackets. For those patients who feel self-conscious about their teeth and dislike the look of shiny metal showing in ever photo, this is the ideal way to move your teeth into alignment without anyone noticing. It is important to know that Invisalign may not be the right treatment for everybody, sometimes conventional braces may be recommended.

Invisalign price

The price for Invisalign cases will generally vary depending on the complexity of the case. On average a fairly straight forward case might cost between Rs 90,000 to 1,40,000.
